And

I thinks this pillow would make an awesome wedding gift. Maybe personalized name pillows along side it. One for her and one for him. I might have to make something like this for my room. Spoonflower here I come!

Paper Camera Kit

This looks like a fun project! Punch out all the parts to this camera from heavy cardstock then fold and glue your way to a working pin hole camera that uses standard 35mm film. You can buy it [HERE].

But mom, the logo made me do it!

I posted about the One 2 One network awhile ago.  I signed up but haven't had the chance to participate until now. I got an email regarding the latest promotion for the Ballas Hough Band.  The email contained the bands logo, some photos, and a short clip of their single.

So, first thing I that got my attention was the logo. Nice. I like the logo- just the kind I really like: creative, simple, requires a second look...so I clicked the link to sign up for the promotion.  That's it.  I don't know the artists- apparently they are on the TV show Dancing with the Stars- but haven't watched it enought to know.

I got the CD in the mail and popped it in to listen.  It's different from the music I usually listen to but it's good- sounds like it could play on any pop music radio station and do well.  My eight year old daughters would like it- they are just starting to get into music. But I really think teens -especially teen girls would DIG it.  Teen crushes here we come.

It's kind of a mix of the Jonas Brothers, David Archuleta, with a bit of Maroon 5 thrown in. You can check out a few songs on their You Tube channel or visit their website.

See what a good logo can do? It made me stop and take notice of this band. Good luck to you BHB!

Um, nice packaging but no thanks!

Insects are eaten all around the world. Would you eat them if they were packaged up like this?

Design is for the birds

I like this alternative to throwing rice at a wedding. The execution is gorgeous too.  Elle, of the design blog MINT, provides instructions plus a free download for you to make your own. I think this would also be a fun party favor for a party at a park or other outing where there are lots of birds, changing the attached note to match your theme.

What did they do to you my poor little Scrabble?

Check out the newly redesigned game of Scrabble. Not. Liking. It. How can you mess with a classic such as Scrabble? If you couldn't tell, I LOVE to play the game- yes partly because I can almost always beat my lawyer husband. I think that is funny since I am a designer and he looks at words all day long for a living. In my opinion, the Scrabble board design is almost iconic!

The new version in all it's gradient, multicolored, flouncy glory is a big disappointment. Good thing I have about three different versions of the clean crisp classic board I love.

As a side note, in my Scrabble search for this post, I came across this cool keyboard handmade from Scrabble tiles. Pretty.

You Data

This is cool company number two found at the Mom 2.0 Summit. I love the concept! As a small business owner and as someone who helped start a lot of small businesses, I think it's a great tool.  With YouData, businesses buy pay per click ads but instead of the money going to Google or Yahoo, the money goes to the person viewing the ad- potential customers.

Customers sign up for a MeFile by answering a few questions about likes and dislikes and the profile is matched up w/ companies who want to sell to that profile.  When matches are made, offers are available to view. YouData provides a desktop application for it's Me Filers or consumers can view the offers on their site. Each time an ad is clicked, money is deposited into the MeFile account. The money is then paid out via PayPal and can either go to a personal account or to a charity of your choice.

I have been testing the MeFile desktop application this the last week or so and it's really easy to use. I've even found some really great businesses and sites that I've bookmarked.

What I like about this as a small business owner is I can potentially micro target the exact type of customers I hope to bring to my business.  No more trying to find the bid on the right key words for a normal Pay Per Click campaign and then hope that someone will click on them.

What I like as a customer is that my time is rewarded and I am introduced to shops that are right in line with products and services I am really interested in.

I haven't tried the seller side so I can't give conversion rates, but from what I've seen- it's a great new marketing/advertising space.
